New McColl Park honors former Bank of America Chair and CEO Hugh McColl

Leaders from Bank of America and the community gathered to celebrate the unveiling of McColl Park at the corner of Trade and Tryon Streets in Uptown Charlotte. McColl Park, formerly known as Polk Park, was renamed in honor of former Bank of America Chair and CEO Hugh McColl, who has played a pivotal role in shaping the Charlotte region.

The design of the new park features "The Nest" — a sculpture consisting of 56-foot-tall interwoven cylinders suspended above the trees — which was inspired by the site’s historical significance and role in the city's evolution. The park also features a series of gardens and a water mirror, as well as benches, tables and chairs.

"Although a pioneer in global banking, Hugh McColl is a leader whose legacy will be marked by his enduring commitment to our city and its citizens," said Kieth Cockrell, president of Bank of America Charlotte. "He has touched virtually every significant development effort in our city, which transformed the Charlotte region into a diverse socio-economic center where companies and people thrive."

"You have been a guiding light in so many careers, and it has truly been an honor to work for and with you at Bank of America, as well as serve beside you as we ensure our community continues to prosper," Kieth added.
